A staple dish of Fukuoka born in Korea? A nostalgic taste of home
Gameni
A dish of simmered chickens and a variety of vegetables such as satoimo, gobo, carrots, and bamboo shoots. It is also called Chikuzenni. There are several different stories of its origin of the name, and one says that the name came after Fukuoka dialect “gamekurikomu (meaning “mixing many ingredients”)” and the other says that it came after the name of dish “Kameni” which the soldiers who was sent to Korea in 1592 cooked with “dobugame (soft-shelled turtles)” and other ingredients all mixed and simmered. Gameni is still a dish for special events in Fukuoka Prefecture.
