Light taste of nourishing Tome-special Aburafu over rice
Tome Aburafu Don
Aburafu, which is deep-fried wheat gluten, is a traditional food of Tome area in the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture. Fried in vegetable oil, it looks similar to French baguette, and tastes simple and healthy. Tome Aburafu Don is a rice bowl dish with round slices of Aburafu simmered in fish broth, mixed with leeks, and topped with delicately cooked eggs. Although the dish is filling, just like katsudon pork cutlet rice bowl, it is much less fatty, and highly nutritious. Restaurants in Tome area serve the dish with their own recipe – it should be fun to try their different tastes.
