The first “local curry”
Yokosuka Navy Curry
“Yokosuka Navy Curry” is made of beef, chicken, carrots, potatoes and onions mixed together and stewed in a pan with a roux of curry powder and flour. This is originally coming from Navy food, when the Japanese Navy adopted “British Navy Curry Stew” as a menu of well-balanced nutrition although cooked easily. Based on this curry stew, some thickness added for Japanese people like it to be put on top of rice. This is the beginning of the rice and curry which is widely eaten in Japan and “Yokosuka Curry Festival” where people can compare the tastes of curries is held here in Yokosuka city.
