Squid, garlic-flavoured soy sauce, and egg yolk – perfect toppings for rice

Hachinohe Bakudan

This is a rice bowl dish topped with fresh squid from the local coast, an egg yolk, and soy sauce flavoured with locally-grown garlic. When all the ingredients are mixed well, the chewy texture of the squid, mild flavour of the sauce and the egg give a perfect balance of taste to the bowl. Hachinohe Bakudan (literally translates as Hachinohe bomb) was chosen as the second best at the 2010 Japan Local Bowl Dish Competition for its rich flavour that explodes in your mouth.
