Okayama

A seafood with its best season when the heads of wheat are in full ear

Jaku Tempura

When written in Japanese, shako (mantis shrimp) has the character for “insect”. It is said that long ago, around Sasaoka, a person who first saw a shako served in a plate thought is was strange and weird and said, “What is this insect? Do people eat insects around this area?” When he actually ate it after being persuaded, he found that is was delicious and since then he asked around if there was any shako around even during the off-season.
