Wappa Meshi

Wappa refers to the traditional Japanese bentwood craft made with thin slices of cedarwood, which is commonly used for lunch box. Served in this beautiful work of art is rice cooked in lightly-salted dashi broth, topped with steamed seasonal seafood. The delicacy, known as Wappa Meshi, is said to have first been developed in 1952 by the owner of a local restaurant Inaka-ya in Niigata City.
