Hoya Sea squirt is often eaten salted and fermented, but in Tsugaru region, people enjoy its distinctive flavour differently, serving it in simple salt water. It is such a common way for the locals to eat hoya that you can not only have it served at restaurants but also find it conveniently packaged to take home at local markets and supermarkets.
