Fukui
A beloved dish shrouded in mystery.
Volga Rice
‘Volga Rice’ has been served in the Takefu area of Echizen City, Fukui since the old days, and consists of fried rice topped with an omelet, crumbed pork cutlet and covered in a rich sauce. There are currently eight restaurants serving the dish in Echizen City, each with their own special methods of making the rice, omelets and sauce. Various different versions of ‘volga rice’ can be enjoyed at trendy cafés, European style restaurants, and even soba noodle shops. However the origin of the dish and its name is still shrouded in mystery.
