Aji Tataki Don
Enjoy the bounty of both the ocean and the mountains at the same time in Atami. One of the more well-known local seafood dishes of the area is ‘aji tataki don’. It is a typical fisherman’s dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with fresh raw aji (horse mackerel) chopped in tataki style. The firm, oily flesh of aji is a perfect match for white rice. If you don’t like raw fish, try pouring hot dashi stock or green tea over the fish and rice, partially cooking the fish to make ‘aji chazuke’. Both dishes can be eaten at restaurants and bars in Atami city.
