Iwate
Energising combination of delicate mochi rice cake and ramen
Chikaramochi Ramen
Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture is known for its variety of mochi rice cake dishes, and it now offers a unique combination of mochi and Japanese style ramen. At the local restaurant Pettankun in the city, a ramen-with-mochi dish is served for reasonable 500 yen. At the restaurant, mochi does comes with soba and udon noodles, too, but this special price is available only for the special combination. The ramen is simple, but very rich in flavour because of the fish broth for the soup, and the delicate texture of mochi is excellent, eaten as it is, or added to the ramen soup. If you are visiting Sukawa hot spring, this is a recommended dish of the area.
