Writing letters on a hot plate?
Monjayaki
A flour-based food cooked with other ingredients on a hot plate. It is different from Okonomiyaki, for it contains more water and seasoning and sauce are mixed-up before cooked. Normally people cook it on a hot plate and eat with small flat-spoons (small spatulas) directly from the plate. Originally eaten as a snack and it is said that the name came from “Mojiyaki – meaning cooked in letters”, because people used to write letters on the plate with this flour-based 生地. There are many Monjayaki shops/restaurants in Tokyo, especially in Asakusa and Tsukishima, where you can see many styles of it. This is pretty popular among the tourists in Tokyo.
