Unagi (eel) dishes

There was a famous popular culture hero during the Edo period (1603-1868) called Danjuro Ichikawa from this region . Through him, Unagi (eel) from Narita became famous among people in Edo (Tokyo). As people became richer, Narita became a popular tourist destination for people in Edo because of the proximity from Edo. People visited Narita and Mt. Narita for pray, hotels offered Unagi which was a specialty from the Tone river and Inba swamp as summer special food in summer. The way to Mt, Narita, 800m and 15 minutes to the temple, there are many restaurants offering Unagi, making this street as a rare Unagi street .
