Ramen
Asahikawa, Sapporo, Hakodate, Kushiro, and Kamikawa – these are the names of cities that are famous for its ramen noodles. Each of them is unique in the choice of flavours, broths, noodles, and ingredients. At the beginning of the Meiji era, ramen noodles were introduced to Japan from China, and became popular across Hokkaido as people moved to settle there. It is said that the international port city of Hakodate was the first where this new food culture developed. Wherever you have a bowl of Hokkaido ramen, the noodles, soup and ingredients are all very satisfying. In Sapporo, where the ramen scene is highly competitive, even a food theme park was opened with various ramen restaurants.
